Dave Milsom is a Welsh mixer, producer and founder of Death Monkey Records, working across alternative, indie rock and post-punk records with an approach rooted in creating records that stand comfortably alongside major releases without sacrificing the intensity and spirit that give independent music its identity.

Over the past two decades he has worked across recording studios, grassroots venues and independent record labels, developing a perspective that extends beyond the control room into every stage of an artist’s career. Since founding Death Monkey Records in 2010, he has collaborated with emerging and established independent artists, helping shape records that have received support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Huw Stephens, while projects he has produced and developed have been nominated and longlisted for the Welsh Music Prize.

His approach is rooted in the belief that the most compelling independent records don’t choose between authenticity and impact. The challenge is preserving the emotional honesty that made the demo compelling while translating the artist’s vision into a record capable of holding its own sonically against the next track in the playlist.

Working from his studio in Swansea, Wales, Dave collaborates with artists throughout the UK and internationally on singles, EPs and albums.

Press / Reviews

"Producer Dave Milsom’s touch is evident"

Producer Dave Milsom’s touch is evident, the sound breathes. There’s air around the instruments, tension in the silence. It doesn’t try to be an anthem, yet becomes one for those caught between burnout and breakthrough.

Hella Fuzz Magazine

”He sharpened the claws, adding punch and clarity without losing an ounce of that raw, indie spirit.”

Credit where it’s due: the mix by Dave Mlison (Death Monkey Records) nails it. He didn’t sanitize the sweat captured at Narberth’s Studio 49 with Nick Swannell. Instead, he sharpened the claws – adding punch and clarity without losing an ounce of that raw, indie spirit. [The Mix] breathes. It swells, recedes, and hits with dynamics most bands dream of. It sounds massive, open, and straight from the chest.

Buzzy Band Magazine

“Dave really brought my vision to life.”

“Dave really helped bring my vision to life. As a solo artist, having someone to bounce ideas off has been invaluable — and I genuinely enjoyed every part of the process!”

Ellis Mason

“You get a unique sound that still feels true to the artist.”

Dave approaches projects from a musician’s perspective and takes time to understand how each artist plays their songs. Combine that with years perfecting his skills behind the desk, and you get a unique sound that still feels true to the artist. His attention to detail elevates the final product in subtle but powerful ways. Across all the bands I’ve recorded with him, Dave’s versatility stands out — his catalogue speaks for itself.
